Numerical Simulation And Experimental Study of Hydraulic Performance of Circular Crested Normal Weirs

Weirs are simple control structures usually built across channels for water storage and measurementof flow rates. The main target of the present study is to numerically simulate experimentally thehydraulic performance circular crested normal weirs. For numerical simulation, commercialpackage ANSYS CFX utilized adopting tetrahedrons mesh with a maximum total number 1932301elements, while, experimental nine physical models manufactured tested havingdifferent crest diameters various weir heights. Numerical simulation results demonstrated that theANSYS software highly capable simulating weirs showing quite goodagreements in surface profiles 4.3% mean percentage error upstream head above crest,while, showed 6.8% estimating discharge coefficient. A simpleempirical expression obtained estimation coefficient terms ratio upstreamhead height diameter correlation =0.88. rate magnification found increasing increase relative thebest when = 0.33 at which thehighest observed ranging between 25.41% 32.14% compared sharpcrested having same length
